RETURNING TO OUR ROOTS: PAYING A VISIT TO THE REVERED NGUYEN SINH SAC HISTORICAL SITE

02.10.2019

The Board of Directors at International Education Institute (IMRT), Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh (VNUHCM) has taken a business trip to Cao Lanh city, Dong Thap province on 25 – 26/09/2019. This trip is within the annual operational framework of IMRT, and was combined with an opening ceremony of the new English Training Course for teachers at the province. On this occasion, they have as well visited the Revered Nguyen Sinh Sac Historical Site with wreaths, showing respect and honor.

Leading the group were Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan – Vice Chancellor of VNUHCM and President of IMRT, with the two Vice Presidents of IMRT – Dr. Bui Thi Hong Hanh and Master Luu Quoc Cuong. The historical site is located at 123/1, Pham Huu Lau street, ward 4, Cao Lanh city, Dong Thap province – where Nguyen Sinh Sac (1862–1929) rested in peace. He is known as a Confucian Patriot and was the father of Ho Chi Minh. The Board of Directors was observed burning some incense and placing wreaths on the site to commemorate and pay tribute to Nguyen Sinh Sac.

After he was dismissed from his duties, Nguyen Sinh Sac moved to the South and became a doctor, helping those in need at Hoa An Village (currently is Cao Lanh city) until he passed away on lunar date October 27th (26/11/1929). His patriotism is admired by many, and therefore the former residents had arranged a funeral for him at Troi Sanh Temple (next to Hoa Long Temple), attempting to preserve it until the war finally ended in 1975. The local authority and citizens at Dong Thap province then rebuilt the grave to express their gratitude towards him. The completion ceremony of the construction was held on December 31st, 1977.

How the site is presented has demonstrated the endless efforts of local authority and the residents at Dong Thap in maintaining, and preserving one of the most important cultural and architectural complexes. This also indicates how much he is loved and respected by others, some may even describe him as a kind and selfless person.
